Councillor Melissa De Santis resigns

By Ewen McRae

Melton councillor Melissa De Santis has resigned from the council, effective immediately.

Cr De Santis cited personal reasons for her decision.

Melton mayor Bob Turner thanked Cr De Santis for her time on council and her contribution to the community.

“On behalf of council, I would like to thank Melissa for the positive contribution she has made to the City of Melton community over the past two and a half years,” Cr Turner said.

“While on council, she strongly advocated for improvement to public transport, access to education and support for the homeless, young people and family violence survivors.”

The vacancy will be filled after a countback by the Victorian Electoral Commission of results from the last council election. A date for the countback is yet to be set.

Cr De Santis was elected to the council’s Coburn ward in October, 2016, with the third highest percentage of votes.
