Council urges patience for park upgrades

Keen skateboarders and basketballers are one step closer to enjoying new facilities in the Moorabool Shire, with construction works almost complete.

The works are set to transform two public parks in Ballan and Gordon, with the addition of a skate park and basketball court in each.

According to Moorabool Shire council, the facilities at Gordon Public Park will be ready for public use by the end of this month and Mill Park in Ballan will be finished by the end of September.

While the skate parks at the two parks are essentially completed, Moorabool Shire council chief executive Derek Madden requested that residents refrain from accessing the areas until all works are finished.

“While no damage has occurred on the sites to date, our preference is that the skate parks remain closed until the projects have fully been completed,” Mr Madden said.

Construction contractor CONVIC have reported that some community members have sought access to the sites, despite temporary fencing blocking access.

“If the community can wait until all work is completed on site and the parks officially and safely open before they are used, we would be very grateful,” Mr Madden said.

“There’s not long to go until they’ll be ready for action.”
