The Melton Bhutanese Community is inviting the public to join members for their Dhasara and Deepawali Festival Celebration 2023 on Sunday, October 22.

Professional Nepalese folk singers Chanda Aryal and Dinesh Thapa will perform at the free event, as well as a diverse range of cultural performances from Bhutanese, Nepalese, Macedonian, Indian, and local Melton community groups.

Bhutanese Community Melton secretary Dal Khadka said the event aims to showcase the Bhutanese community’s traditions, bridge cultural gaps, and integrate with the diverse local community inclusively.

“The event aims to celebrate Dhasara and Deepawali festivals, share cultural values and performances with various community groups, and connect our community members with the local community while promoting multiculturalism,” he said.

“Many of our senior members don’t speak English, and the younger generation often struggles with their mother tongue.

“This project acts as a bridge, helping our generations to learn and carry forward our culture while also gaining an understanding of the local area’s diverse cultures.”

The event will take place from 10.30am to 3.30pm at the Melton Community Town Hall.
