Community road safety boost

Melton and Moorabool schools, councils, and not-for-profit organisations can now apply for a funding boost for grassroots road safety initiatives to drive down road trauma.

The state government’s $1.5 million Community Road Safety Grants Program delivers targeted education programs designed to provide local solutions to local road safety concerns.

Applications are open for the 2022-23 grants for programs which target the needs of communities and provide local road safety interventions to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads.

The program includes education sessions on road safety for cyclists, drivers and passengers, motorcyclists, pedestrians and promoting safer vehicles as well as funding roadside signage initiatives and improvements.

Roads and Road Safety Minister Ben Carroll said: “We’re empowering local communities to help tackle road safety challenges in their area and educating some of our youngest Victorians.”

“Supporting grassroots road safety initiatives is vital as we work to address the issues driving road trauma – including fatigue and high-risk driver behaviour such as speeding and drink driving.”
