Club targets new players

Committee member Richard Wilkinson said the long-standing club had become a hub in the community.

“The club was established in 1964 and moved into Reserve Road in 2005,” Mr Wilkinson said.

“They used to play around all the pubs and clubs.

“People come here to connect with people and socialise. We play three times a week and there are womens, mens and junior grades.

“We also have Melton Classic in June where we get players come from all across Australia playing in a competition.”

Mr Wilkinson has been part of the club since 1991 with stints as vice president and president.

He said that while numbers were strong, with about 190 members on the books, the club wanted to encourage more people to come and try the sport.

“It’s a great sport, especially for younger players,” Mr Wilkinson said. “We recently had two competent juniors make the state side.

“We’re all for juniors here. We’ve got about 15 juniors playing out of this club and we welcome everyone who wants to give the sport a try.”
