Classes in wonderland

A fantasy world came to life at Melton South Primary School last week when grade 1 and 2 pupils dressed up as their favourite fairytale characters.

The youngsters have been studying fairy- tales and figuring out how to distinguish good and bad characters in many well-known stories as part of learning how to inquire and be discerning.

Grade 1 teacher Amanda Larizza said a parade of fairytale characters was developed after students had read and written about them during the term. Ms Larizza said the main aim was to help children analyse the plot of each fairytale and understand what the main dilemma was in each story.

“We made gingerbread men a couple of weeks ago and associated them with the story of the gingerbread man,” she said.

“My students have been writing stories about Jack and the Bean Stalk, so we’ve planted beans and we’re watching them grow in the classroom.”
