Chance to discover dingo pups

Lyn Watson has dedicated most of her life to breeding, and conserving, “pure” Australian dingoes.

The kind that doesn’t have wild or domestic dog genes – the purest of dingoes, she says of the 36 adults at her property in Toolern Vale.

“It’s always been a passion, it’s been a calling of mine for all my life,” Ms Watson says.

“My background is as a dog judge, dog breeder and handler, so I know a little about dogs. But I’m totally respectful and fascinated by our native dogs.”

Every year, during July and August, Ms Watson opens her doors at the Dingo Discovery Centre to the public.

It’s a chance for people to get up close and personal with the litters that are born during this time of the year, and sponsor an adult dingo of their choice.

Ms Watson said the volunteer-run centre relied solely on donations.”

“The money is used for the ongoing upkeep and veterinary care of the dingoes,” she said. “Anybody who has to go to a vet knows how expensive it is.”

Unfortunately, not all dingoes 36 dingoes have been sponsored yet.

The final open day, to see all 15 pups, is this weekend, August 15 and 16. The first session is at 11am, followed by the second session at 2pm.

Ms Watson said there would be another open day on Sunday, August 30, but some pups would’ve left the discovery centre for their new homes.

Entry costs $35 per adult and $20 per child. Children must be over the age of seven.

Bookings are essential. For more information, call 5428 1245.
