Celebrating Men’s Sheds

Men’s Shed Week is being celebrated between September 4 and 10, as a way to commemorate friendship and community between men.

According to the Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA), more than 50,000 Australians benefit participation in 1200 Men’s Sheds across the country.

In Melton, there are two groups, one located at Willows Historical Park in Melton and another at Morton Homestead in Taylors Hill. There is also a Men’s Shed in Bacchus Marsh and Ballan.

The groups provide opportunities for “hands on” practical activities, where men can work with other men, in an informal and relaxed setting.

AMSA chairman Paul Sladdin said Men’s Shed enhanced the lives of many men and built better communities.

“Men’s Sheds foster community spirit, cultivate social connectedness and contribute to building a more inclusive Australia,” he said.

Membership to join a Men’s Shed is free, contact your local council to find out more.
