Melton will receive a share of $27 million in funding for upgrades to an array of local sporting facilities as part of a Victorian Government program.

Three local facilities received funding as part of 81 across the state, with a total of $731,000 for the area.

The new Bridge Road Recreation Reserve will gain a multipurpose football and

cricket oval, LED lighting and a floodlit, competition-standard netball court with $250,000 in funding and $231,000 was allocated for sports ground lighting for the soccer pitches at the Mt Atkinson Active Open Space Precinct.

Burnside Heights Recreation Reserve will also benefit from $250,000 for oval upgrades.

The funding adds to a total of $2.75 million provided by Melton council for the three projects.

City of Melton mayor Goran Kesic said partnerships with the Victorian government enabled the council to deliver much-needed infrastructure for residents.

They’re spaces that help communities connect, support local economies and improve people’s health,” Cr Kesic said.

Cr Kesic said the expansion of the second oval at Burnside Heights would allow local sporting clubs to include more players.

“All three projects will enable new community and sporting groups to grow their participation numbers.”

Melton MP Steve McGhie said that a growing community such as Melton deserved modern and safe facilities.

“The new oval and netball court is not only a win for local clubs, but also for the whole of Melton.”
