Caring for those in need

Melton council has partnered with a social service agency to deliver emergency relief for local families in need.

Council and CatholicCare launched the program last week, which will provide financial or material aid to help people experiencing hardship resulting from their current life situation or an unexpected crisis event.

CatholicCare chief executive Netty Horton said the organisation provides emergency relief from a number of its offices across Greater Melbourne, however without an existing office in Melton, have not have been able to deliver services to locals.

“CatholicCare is very excited to be collaborating with Melton City Council,” Ms Horton said.

“We are aware that the City of Melton is experiencing rapid growth – and this means that the number of people needing support is also growing.

“For those individuals and families who have hit difficult times, emergency relief can help them to get their lives back on track.”

Melton mayor Bob Turner said the council had been advocating for a service like this for some time, and would provide CatholicCare with a dedicated office space at the Melton Civic Centre.

“This program has been so valuable to people experiencing significant hardship or crisis and we’re pleased to support CatholicCare in its continuation,” Cr Turner said.
