These five students and their teacher will chop their hair off to mark the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter.

Catholic Regional College Melton year 12 students Livinia, Olivia, Khaw Ti, Cheyenne and Danielle, and their teacher Natalie
Bourke will be cutting their long locks and donating it to cancer charity Wigs for Kids.

Ms Bourke said the students wanted to do something to mark their school life and celebrate the end of exams.

“We’ve been growing our hair and just sick of it,” Ms Bourke said.

“Instead of going to the hairdresser and getting it cut, we thought we should do something worthwhile for charity.”

Khaw Ti’s hair is mid-thigh length, and she can’t remember the last time she had a hair cut. She said her hair had become part of her identity, so she was excited and nervous to get rid of it.

“I feel like after cutting it, I’ll be a new person – new life, new uni, a new birth, a new chapter,” the teenager said.

“Also, I have uncles and aunties who’d been diagnosed with cancer, but they’ve beat it.”
