A Bacchus Marsh local sped to the podium at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, earning a medal and continuing a success streak.

Cyclist Graeme Frislie won bronze in the mens 4000 metre Pursuit team race, beating Wales for the medal at the Lee Valley Velodrome in London.

The 21-year-old spent part of his childhood growing up in Moorabool and attending Bacchus Marsh Grammar, and was inspired by the Tour de France to try out cycling.

Frislie’s Commonwealth Games success followed a slew of wins across the globe, including gold at the Nations Cup and Oceania Championships earlier this year.

The young cyclist said his first Commonwealth Games was a “super cool” experience and was “one of those bucket list things”.

“It’s pretty special just to be a part of it and get selected,” he said.

He said he was thankful to have his parents by his side in London to support.

“It was good to have them around, just being able to see them again, it was nice.”

Frislie also came sixth in the mens scratch race and also competed in the points race, but did not finish due to a crash.

After the excitement of the Games he was taking a couple of weeks to rest before selections for the World Championships.

“I’m just waiting for that, seeing how that goes and then assessing what I’m doing from there.”
