The Melton’s Broncos girls’ tag team players are dead keen on rugby league and their club would love to offer them more avenues to move through the grades.
Right now, the club has a single female team – a junior girls team.
Tag, a non-contact variation of rugby league, has only been played at Melton for about three seasons, with the team’s co-coach, Rachel Ruzanji, saying help from the community would help increase interest in the sport.
She says the Broncos plan to introduce under-12 and under-14 girls tag teams, but need sponsorship and volunteers.
“Our club is only very young compared to others, and although we have a lot of male teams, varying in ages, our one girls team really would appreciate any sort of help to represent the club.
“Female players within the rugby league community are struggling to properly represent the club because of the numbers.”
Ms Ruzanji said players want to inspire others in the community to chase their sporting dreams.
“Many have dreams to continue to play the sport they love as they grow older, and the club wants to make this dream available to them so any help for the club in general would be appreciated.”
