Fire brigades across Wyndham and Melton are getting help with their response capabilities.

The Mount Cottrell Group of the CFA has received its own field command vehicle to help incident management teams with the setting up of command and control arrangements.

The $44,000 vehicle – purchased through fundraising among the brigades and the Volunteer Emergency Services equipment grant program – is fitted with communications gear and lights and sirens for quick responses, as well as a number of other features.

The Mount Cottrell Group includes 11 fire brigades from Wyndham and Melton and one coastguard flotilla and is the busiest within Victoria’s District 14.

The group’s brigades respond to about 4000 incidents each year.

A spokeswoman for the Country Fire Authority said four brigades within the Mount Cottrell group would soon undertake emergency medical response training, which will mean a significant increase in the number of incidents they attend.
