Early engineering assessments for the Diggers Rest level crossing removals at Old Calder Highway and Watsons Road have found that bridges over the Sunbury rail line will be the best option for the upgrade.
The state government said the level crossing project team would be talking to the community in the coming months as designs for the project get underway, and would host a range of information sessions where the community can provide feedback and raise questions.
“We’re thrilled to see the Diggers Rest level crossing removals progressing, and crews are out on site this month and the next to gather data for the planning and design of the project,” Sunbury MP Josh Bull said.
“We’ve seen the huge benefits level crossing removals bring to communities, and now it’s Diggers Rest’s turn, which will see the suburb become boom-gate free to improve the way people move around the area and prepare the line for more train services to run.”
Site investigations at both locations continue, which will inform the planning and design of the project, and include geotechnical land and utility surveying, as well as ecological assessments and soil sampling.
According to the government, the level crossing at Calder Park Drive, Calder Park is in advanced planning and will be removed by building a road bridge over the rail line, while the crossing at Holden Road, Calder Park will be closed to traffic.
