Djerriwarrh Community and Education Services scored a big win in National Volunteers Week.

The Club Caroline Springs bar and bistro funded a new Toyota Prius C Hybrid for the L2P program, which helps disadvantaged young people clock up 120 hours at the wheel to get their probationary licence.

The car was handed over by Melton Toyota last Tuesday to replace one that had racked up 200,000 kilometres and was close to being removed from the road.

“We can continue to assist local young people at the rate we have been over six years,” L2P project officer Kim Leech said.

“The people who are in the program don’t have anyone to assist them to get the driving hours they need to get their licences … and if they don’t have someone who’s able to mentor them they’re at a further disadvantage.”
