A much-loved slide in Melton has been replaced after vandalism dulled its shine.
Melton mayor Kathy Majdlik said the slide at Hannah Watts Park in Melton was replaced after being vandalised earlier this year.
“In September, part of the slide at Hannah Watts Park was stolen, making the play structure unsafe to use,” Cr Majdlik said.
“It was incredibly disappointing that one of our city’s favourite playgrounds was vandalised.
“We’re pleased to bring this slide back to the community.
“I’m sure our city’s young residents are thrilled to have this much-loved big slide back, and I look forward to seeing more families enjoy the full range of play equipment at Hannah Watts Park again.”
In a statement to the City of Melton Facebook page last week, council shared the news of the reopening with residents.
“One of your favourite big slides is back!” the statement said.
“It’s now ready for play, so come and join the fun!”
Residents took to the comments section to share their approval of the reopening.
“Great to see [council] keeping Melton parks up-to-date,” one commenter said.
Hannah Watts Park was one of three parks opened in June, 2019, after a redevelopment.
Melton mayor at the time, Bob Turner, said the new spaces, which also included redeveloped Bill Cahill Reserve and new Arnolds Creek Play Space, would encourage local residents to spend time outdoors.
