Staff and pupils at Balliang East primary school are getting ready to tie up their runners, drop the electronics and get moving during April.
School principal Caryn Fox said this was the third year the school has signed up for Premier’s Active April, which challenges participants to commit to exercising for at least 30 minutes a day.
And while there’s a lot of hard work involved for Ms Fox, keeping track of the exercise diaries of 39 pupils, she reckons it’s all worth it.
“Because we’re such a small community, when you get opportunities, when you can get all kids involved, we seize it,” she said. And the best part of it is the ripple effect of “active” months, Ms Fox said, with pupils encouraging their parents to get going as well.
“The kids aren’t going home and just staring at their computers and playing games,” she said.
“For some it definitely instils in them a healthy lifestyle.”
