Ballan Lions’ big serve

The Ballan Lions Club is exapnding its vision in a bid to serve more people in the community.

The club is establishing the first Victorian Lions Club branch especially for people on the autism spectrum.

Ballan club secretary Wayne Buckland said the plan was all about giving more meaning to the Lions’ motto, “We serve”.

“One of the main projects we support as a branch is the local Keeley’s Cause project, raising money to buy iPads for children with autism,” Mr Buckland said.

“We know of a Lions club in Sydney with a branch for the autistic and thought it was a wonderful idea.

“I have nieces and a nephew on the autism spectrum … we want to give these people the opportunity to serve the community as well.

“Our mantra is, ‘We serve’, so why not give them the chance to also serve and provide them with a place where they can be comfortable?

“Anybody from within the community residing in any town within Victoria are welcomed and encouraged to join.”

Ballan Lions Club will hold an information event on Sunday, July 8, from 2pm at the Ballan Mechanics Institute.
