Drivers across Melton and Moorabool are being reminded to slow down and take extra care as children return to school, with reduced speed limits now in force around school zones.
A 40km/h limit applies during school times from 8–9.30am and 2.30–4pm, with motorists urged to watch for children near schools and students getting on and off buses.
Council officers and Victoria Police will be regularly patrolling school areas, focusing on safety, education and enforcement. Motorists are reminded that stopping illegally, even briefly, can result in a fine.
Common offences include stopping in no-stopping zones, across driveways, near intersections, on footpaths or nature strips, and close to children’s crossings.
Officers may also issue infringements by post, supported by photographic evidence.
Parents are encouraged to plan ahead, park legally further away if needed, and walk children to school.
Drivers must also obey crossing supervisors and avoid mobile phone use.
