Hayley Trask will bid her long locks farewell at the end of this week.

The 23-year-old Bacchus Marsh Grammar teacher is taking part in this year’s World’s Greatest Shave to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Ms Trask said she’d always been hesitant to wave goodbye to her hair but decided to take the plunge after a family friend was diagnosed with leukaemia last year.

“She was always doing things for the community,” Ms Trask said.

“To have someone you know get diagnosed with leukaemia was a big shock … it brought the cause a little bit closer to home.”

Ms Trask will have her head shaved during school hours at Bacchus Marsh Grammar in the hope her students will feel inspired.

“It’s definitely a personal challenge … for me, it’s an opportunity to be a good example to the kids,” she said.

“I want to show them looks aren’t everything – if you want to do something that makes you feel like a good person, perhaps looks aren’t really a big thing.”
