Bacchus Marsh community sport is set to benefit from brand new facilities as stage two of the Racecourse and Recreation Reserve project starts construction.
The project is designed to provide the area with an active sports precinct to cater for projected growth and future sports requirements of Bacchus Marsh.
The first stage of the project included the installation of a BMX track, coaches boxes, a pavilion, dressage arenas, a cross country course and more.
The second stage will encompass the construction of a variety of sporting facilities including two permanent soccer pitches, a central cricket pitch, a second pavilion and car parking.
The final product will be a precinct that features four soccer pitches, two cricket fields, an AFL-size oval and four multi-purpose netball and tennis courts.
The project is funded by a $4 million grant from the Victorian government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program and World Game Facilities Fund.
The Moorabool Shire Council also contributed $4.8 million to the second stage of the project.
Buningyong MP Michaela Settle said it was important that the Bacchus Marsh community had modern and accessible facilities in order to have the opportunity to get out and be active.
“By investing in multi-purpose facilities like this fast-developing sport precinct, we’re working to make local sports more accessible, so more people can get active in nature and enjoy the parks they love,” Ms Settle said.
“With local sport now back on in the park, we’re getting on with projects that deliver more opportunities for Victorians to enjoy the sports they love at quality grassroots venues like those here in Bacchus Marsh.”
