A giant mural that will feature elements of Melton’s natural environment is set to be unveiled in Ravenhall.
As part of the Summer of Street Art program, renowned street artist George Rose has been busy creating the 20-metre wide mural on the rear façade of a building on a freeway entrance in Ravenhall. Incorporating floral emblems from other nations, as well as Australian native plants and animals, the mural is a true representation of the Melton area and its people, says Rose
“A large number of Melton residents were born overseas, so I’ve decided to focus on the flora of this area intermingled with the national emblems representing some of those countries,” Rose said.
“In the mural you’ll see lotus from India, Arabian Jasmine from the Philippines, the silver fern of New Zealand, Maltese centaury for Malta and the chrysanthemum for Vietnam.
“Beyond these, I wanted to celebrate native biodiversity and focus on how vulnerable and in need of our protection it is.”
The mural is expected to be completed by mid-April.
