Anita Rus doing her hair share

Anita Rus wants to send a message to women – that no matter what you look like, you’re strong and beautiful.

Ms Rus’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and lymphoma earlier this year. Following treatment, she started losing hair.

“I still thought she looked beautiful, but when you’re going through what she was going through it’s hard to feel beautiful,” the Kurunjang resident said.

A conversation with her mother prompted Ms Rus (pictured) to shave her hair off – to raise money for breast cancer research, to stand in solidarity with her mother and to send a message to women battling tough times.

Ms Rus says she’s been blown away by the support people have shown her for “being real and open”.

“I wanted to show women we’re all strong on the inside no matter what we look like – with hair or no hair, we’re fighters,” she said.

Melton Ryder Real Estate director Jason Ryder will be shaving Ms Rus’s curly, brown hair at noon on Saturday, November 5.

The real estate agency will match each donation, up to a total of $1000, to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation.

“I just want people to understand that it’s very real – this disease is very real and it can happen to anyone,” Ms Rus said.
