A welcome mosaic project in Darley

The entrance to Darley Neighbourhood House will get a bright new facelift.

As part of Moorabool council’s community arts grants, the neighbourhood house’s mosaics group received $3000 to create a ‘Welcome’ sign.

Neighbourhood house manager Jeanette McGonegal said they are looking forward to creating a sign Darley residents could feel proud of.

“Anyone who wants to take part can contribute to the project,” Ms McGonegal said. “It’ll be fantastic, and it’ll be something the house can feel proud of.

“I hope it’s something the whole community, and street, can feel a sense of ownership. I hope people will come out to see the sign.”

The sign, which will feature the neighbourhood house’s logo and the words “a place for everyone”, will measure four metres by three, and green and yellow stones will be used.

Ms McGonegal said the mosaics group started four years ago and has been a hit with the community.

For the past few months, the group has been creating a number of large mosaic projects, including mosaic bollards, coffee tables and a mosaic sign for a local childcare centre.

Moorabool council distributed about $71,000 in community grants last week.
