Melton council will soon begin work on a four-year strategy to help ensure people of all ages and abilities in the community can grow and thrive throughout all life stages.

The title of the strategy will be determined through consultation, and for now will be called ‘A strategy for all abilities and all ages’.

The strategy will update the existing plan, ‘Melton: A City for all People 2017 – 2021’ and will consider what residents need to lead healthy, happy and safe lives in Melton.

People with disability, children, young people, older people and carers in the City of Melton are encouraged to share their experiences with Council to help develop a new strategy that will meet peoples’ ever-changing and diverse needs.

An extensive engagement process will launch on Monday January 17 and will include an online survey and online engagement sessions.

This will explore how people live, work, play and learn in Melton, how this has changed over time, and the improvements that could be made to support them in the future.

Melton mayor Goran Kesic encouraged residents to share their ideas and experiences to help inform this key document.

“We’re working to create a plan that will help everyone get the most out of life in the City of Melton including people with disability, children, young people, and older people,” Cr Kesic said.

“It’s important that people of all ages and abilities can grow and thrive within a community that’s supportive, accepting, safe and accessible.

“Please share your experiences with us and tell us how we can make life and ageing in the City of Melton even better.

“This strategy will influence the services and infrastructure we prioritise and deliver. It will help Council plan a positive future for our community as they move through life stages – from child, parent, worker, carer to retiree.”
