Winding through lush Moorabool scenery, the Berry Long Run is returning for its 11th year, raising funds to support people who have experienced family violence.
A non-profit race, the 70-kilometre route will take runners from the scenic Blackwood Mineral Springs to a gorge trail, through the forest, and past plenty of breath-taking landscapes before arriving back in town to celebrate their efforts.
There will also be a 40-kilometre marathon route, with runners set to enjoy similarly incredible terrain and scenery.
Berry Long Run organiser Joe Lewis said that the run – which was first officially hosted in 2015 – supports organisation Berry Street, which has “always done a lot for children, especially who’ve been impacted by neglect.”
“They’ve always done a lot to support families who have been impacted by abuse and neglect … and these days, they have a big network of schools as well, so they run foster care programs as well as actual schools across Victoria,” Mr Lewis said.
“There’s always a large number of volunteers who help make it happen each year, and that includes in particular a local group called Melton City Runners … we can’t … make it work from a cost perspective without all of that volunteer help, so it’s just kind of community occasion,” he said.
Mr Lewis said that there is always room for more volunteers, with registration available on the event website.
The runs will be hosted on Saturday, August 9, and further details on runner requirements and registration is available on the event website.
Registrations for the 70-kilometre run close on Wednesday, August 6, and spots are limited.
