75 firefighters battle blaze in Melton

A 50-acre grassfire was burning in Mount Cottrell this morning, with 75 firefighters attending the scene to fight the blaze.

Emergency services responded to a Triple-0 call at about 4:40am today and the response was quickly escalated.

It took crews more than an hour to get the fire under control and they confirmed the fire was extinguished by 6am.

The fire occurred at a site on Faulkners Road. Fire Rescue Victoria did not provide any information on the cause of the fire.
