Cash on offer for Melton public land projects

Melton council has five $1000 grants available to environment and community groups for work on public land projects in the municipality.

Successful recipients will be announced as part of World Environment Day celebrations at the Melton library on Friday, June 5.

Melton mayor Sophie Ramsey said the grants would help local groups carry out projects to benefit the whole community.

“We appreciate the tireless efforts of our local groups for the valuable work they do in the environment sector,” Cr Ramsey said.

She said the funding would ensure groups could undertake programs that helped reduce environmental degradation and “ensure Melton continues to be a beautiful place to live”.

Last year, 1st Caroline Springs Scouts, Friends of the Melton Botanic Gardens, Friends of Toolern Creek, Melton Environment Group and Pinkerton Landcare and Environment Group were awarded $1000 each.

An assessment panel, made up of council officers, will determine successful projects for funding.

Judging criteria is on the application form, available www.melton.vic.gov.au  or by calling council’s environmental educator on 9747 7200.
