Melton’s first high school turned 40 this year and its longest-serving staff member, Laura Church, was there to blow out the candles.
The 78-year-old’s late daughter was among the first to be enrolled in 1975 at Melton Secondary College, formerly known as Melton High School.
After myriad roles with the school, the Melton grandmother is now the VCE exams’ chief supervisor.
“I’ve enjoyed my involvement with the school over the 40 years,” Ms Church said.
“There were only about four rooms when [the school] opened; it’s definitely expanded. And the uniform has changed … seeing the present uniform, it’s a vast improvement.”
The school celebrated its 40th birthday at a fun-filled event at the weekend.
