When Bacchus Marsh couple Taylah Bills and Jordan Hornsey decided to get a new pet, they knew adoption was how they wanted to do it.
“We spent a lot of time going to all the different pounds near and far,” Ms Bills said.
“There was no other option; adoption was always going to be the way to go. Every pound we went into broke our hearts and we wanted to re-home all of them.”
Ms Bills and Mr Hornsey ended up adopting three-legged bull terrier-cattle dog cross Abby from the Moorabool Shire animal pound.
Abby was impounded just after Christmas when attempts to find her owners were unsuccessful.
“When we saw Abby I burst into tears,” Ms Bills said.
“She was very neglected yet was so loving and had such a beautiful nature. We knew instantly she was the one.”
Abby has since been desexed, treated for skin issues and for arthritis in her hind legs, and is settling in perfectly at her new home.
“As soon as we brought her home she’d follow us everywhere, always with a smile on her face,” she said. “We couldn’t imagine her not being around now.”
Ms Bills said she’d recommend adoption to anyone thinking of getting a new pet.
“The appreciation Abby shows us every day is priceless,” she said.
The Moorabool pound currently has two dogs and five cats needing homes.
