Woman survives car rollover at Rockbank blackspot

A 20-year-old woman was trapped in her car for an hour following a two-vehicle collision at Rockbank last Friday afternoon.

Police believe the female driver was attempting drive accross the Western Freeway from Troups Road North just before 3.30pm when her car was struck by another car travelling outbound.

She was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital and is in a stable condition.

The driver of the other car, a man in his 30s, was taken to the same hospital for assessment.

A police spokeswoman said investigators believe a truck driver attempted to dodge the woman’s vehicle before the crash.

Police would like to speak to the truck driver.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman could not confirm the number of ambulances at the scene, but an observer told Star Weekly there were four police cars, three ambulances and four fire trucks.

The Troups Road North and Western Freeway intersection is a known blackspot.

Last year, a truck jack-knifed and blocked Melbourne-bound traffic on the freeway, closing inbound lanes at Troups Road.
