Thousands of Melton and Moorabool students went back to school last week and were joined by the new kids on the block – the preps.
Melton South Primary welcomed over 70 preps to the school on Thursday, including three sets of twins.
There was plenty of excitement and nerves as Miller and Kyan, Rose and Ruby and Cohen and Curtis geared up in their school uniforms and headed through the school gates together.
They were already familiar with the school and their teachers from being part of the school transition program, “countdown to prep”.
Melton South’s technology and design teacher, Donna Teven, said the program helped the children and their parents prepare for the beginning of school.
She said the school also allowed parents to stay with their children until both parent and child felt comfortable.
Lisa van Dijk shared the many emotions of parents across the state when her daughter and eldest child, Anouk, went through the classroom doors at Melton South last week.
Ms van Dijk said the morning started with the traditional first day of school photos and lots of questions.
“She’s so excited about what to expect … and she’s keen to find out what her homework is,” Ms van Dijk said.
More than 76,000 preps across Victoria are expected to start school this year.
