Diggers Rest body in car boot: Police release CCTV footage of 4WD

SEE VIDEO BELOW

Homicide Squad investigators have released CCTV footage of a four-wheel drive they believe might be pivotal to Kenan Balikel’s murder.

The 42-year-old Footscray man’s charred remains were discovered in the boot of his unregistered Peugeot at Bulla-Diggers Rest Road last year.

The twin cab utility four-wheel-drive with a hard-top canopy was closely following Mr Balikel’s Peugeot 407 wagon on Mickleham Road, Tullamarine, on Thursday, October 30 about 11.40pm.

The footage shows both cars travelling north towards Tullamarine Freeway.

Detective Senior Sergeant Stuart Bailey said they now believed Mr Balikel was murdered near Freight Road, Tullamarine, before his body being transported to Diggers Rest.

“Our investigations have led us to believe that Kenan was killed sometime between 3 and 4pm in the vicinity of where he was last seen in Freight Road,” Detective Senior Sergeant Bailey said.

“We are hoping, following the release of this footage, that someone with information or the person or persons in the 4WD come forward.”

“We are not saying they are definitely involved. However, due to the time and location we see the 4WD on the road and the proximity to the deceased’s vehicle, we need to identify the 4WD and its occupants as part of our inquiries.’’
