Make a wish come true at Kmart’s popular Wishing Tree

More than 500,000 disadvantaged Australians are expected to share in the celebrations of Christmas thanks to generous donors.

Kmart’s popular Wishing Tree campaign has collected more than six million gifts for children, families and seniors during the past 26 years.

The Melton store’s Wishing Tree champion, Lynette Miller, said the local community jumped on board each year and had donated more than 1000 gifts to the cause last Christmas.

“There is really good community support,” Ms Miller said.

“People come back year after year and contribute to the Wishing Tree.”

Last Wednesday, the store formally kicked off this year’s campaign with students from Melton West Primary School singing carols and songs.

Participants are encouraged to place a gift under the store’s Christmas tree and take a tag from the tree to identify the appropriate age and gender of the gift’s recipient.

The Kmart Wishing Tree campaign works with the Salvation Army.
