A weekend roadtrip to Adelaide took a bad turn for four people in their early 20s, when the caravan they were travelling in jackknifed and was thrown into the barriers along the Western Freeway, near Bacchus Marsh about 8.15am on Friday.
Bacchus Marsh Sergeant Mark Bacon said the male driver and his three passengers – two men and a woman of similar age – were “very shaken up”, but unharmed.
“Their camper started to wobble from side-to-side, and the driver tried to correct it, resulting in it jackknifing and throwing them off to the side, into those wide barriers,” Sergeant Bacon said.
“They weren’t speeding, and as far as we can tell, everything was legal. They were heading to the Royal Adelaide Show.”
Four police officers, a CFA and SES unit and a paramedic attended. The freeway was still partially blocked for two hours after the accident, with only one lane operating.
