Buninyong’s new men’s shed will soon begin construction after Bendigo Bank’s Buninyong and district community branch handed over $5000.
Buninyong Men’s Shed president Bill Jolly said after one year of planning, it was good to see the project getting under way.
“The slab will be put down at either the end of this month or early next month,” Mr Jolly said.
He said the new shed would be on Forest Street, where the old tennis club rooms had been.
Buninyong and District community bank branch manager Stuart McKee said the bank wanted to contribute to the growth and prosperity of the community.
He said the bank pledged the money late last year, which allowed the group to be eligible for $60,000 funding from the Department of Human Services.
“The Men’s Shed gives people with a lot of skills the ability share the knowledge, have great mateship and keep them involved,” Mr McKee said.
“They work closely with the community and deal with men’s health, making them great candidates for the grant.”
The group of 15 currently meet at a member’s house in Buninyong each Wednesday.
Mr Jolly said he had a list of 37 other men waiting who were unable to join because of space restrictions.
He said he expected the new shed to be ready in October.
