School’s in: Heathdale celebrates campus opening

Former Mowbray College pupils are among the students enrolled at a new Melton school that was officially opened last week.

Heathdale Christian College, which has operated in Werribee for more than 30 years, has almost 30 pupils from prep to grade 4 enrolled at its Melton campus, located at the former Mowbray site in Centenary Avenue.

Head of the junior school, Lyn Moffett, said pupils received “certificates of commencement” during a celebration last Thursday, which was also attended by some people from the former Mowbray.

“They were very excited to see what we’ve done with the place,” said college spokeswoman Annisa Croxon.

Mowbray College collapsed under the weight of massive debts in June 2012, leaving about 1200 students and 200 staff without a school.
