Call out for pets to help injured, sick, orphaned wildlife

Donna Zabinskas was inspired to open the Greendale Wildlife Shelter more than 17 years ago after seeing a nearby rescue project.

“Back then there was the Blackwood Wildlife Shelter, which was run by one woman in a little house,” Ms Zabinskas said.

“We became more active and the more people got to know, the more animals came, and enclosures got built.”

Ms Zabinskas runs the non-profit emergency shelter with her son Damien.

They rescue and rehabilitate injured, sick and orphaned wildlife.

Proceeds from a pet show being held as part of the Blackwood Woodchop Easter Carnival on April 19 will help meet the shelter’s running costs of up to $20,000 a year.
