A new jobs program, aimed at helping young people unsure about their future, was launched in Melton on Tuesday.
YouthNow, which provides education, training and employment support for young people, will run the program at Melton library, providing advice to young adults looking for career guidance.
Trainer Maria Cox (pictured) says the CareersNow program is free for 17-to- 24-year-olds who are not in education or training.
“CareersNow will be delivered as a short community education program for those who are still wondering what it is they want to do,” Ms Cox said.
“This program has been running successfully from our base at the Visy Cares Hub in Sunshine for over a year and has achieved some amazing results.
“We use a career quiz to identify career interests, skills and preferences. Outcomes have included part-time jobs, people returning to school to complete VCAL or VCE, enrolling in a vocational course and volunteering.”
Last year, YouthNow and Melton council launched the Building Melton Together project, designed to help the local building and construction industry meet recruitment needs.
YouthNow is also involved in a partnership with the council, Djerriwarrh Education and Community Services, Wesley Mission, Merrimu Services and the Melton Specialist School in delivering a pilot program to help people with disabilities gain self-confidence and skills in a supportive work environment.
YouthNow is open and accessible from 10am-2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Melton Library and Learning Hub.
