Ballan teenager Jackson Hammond sought refuge from Victoria’s heatwave by gliding along the Murray River in record-breaking time.
Competing in the junior section of the Southern 80 ski race near Echuca earlier this month, the 16-year-old smashed a record that had stood for eight years, covering 80 kilometres in a little more than 33 minutes.
“I’ve been racing since I was eight and I still get that adrenalin rush every time,’’ Jackson says.
The year 11 Mount Clear Secondary College student says he tries to get out on the water at least once a week.
