Sad tribute to this furry Toolern Vale visitor

A koala who surprised Toolern Vale residents by drinking from a dam has died.

The Macedon Ranges Wildlife Network reported on its Facebook page on February 19 that despite the best efforts of Tony’s Practice Woodend Veterinary Centre, the koala died from a twisted gut.

“We fought very hard to save him, but he was simply too weak and sick for a recovery,” the post stated.

Photographer Shawn Smits captured images of the koala drinking from his dam on February 4.

“It was a good 30 minutes that it sat in the water drinking, not at all worried about me moving around.”
