Melton council is involved in talks to find a new aged-care provider to move into Reg Geary House.
Community services general manager Maurie Heaney told last week’s council meeting that officers were working with the Health Department about options for the aged-care centre.
Western Health announced in October last year that it planned to close the 30-bed facility at the end of June. In January, Western Health’s acting executive director of operations, Claire Culley, told the
Weekly that all residents were likely to be relocated by the end of this month.
“Under current capacity as a 30-bed [facility] it’s not fit to be a viable management option for a provider,” Mr Heaney said. “In saying that, officers are having further discussions with the Department of Health about whatever opportunities may exist.
‘‘[Keeping it as an aged-care facility] is our preference and our discussions with the Department of Health are along that line. They are in the process of speaking to a number of providers who provide services right across Victoria.”
