No council mail on Melton South no-parking sign

A Melton South resident says he’s frustrated by a lack of communication from Melton council after it put a no-parking sign outside his property without consultation.

“It wouldn’t have been such a big thing if they had contacted me.

I would have been happy about discussing where to place the sign,” Wattle Place resident Wayne Johnson said.

He said while there was still enough room to park one car outside his house, the sign made it harder to teach his son how to reverse park.

“If they moved it down further in front of my property, it would still leave room to park cars and exit the house across the road safely.

“I rang and spoke to the council and its view was that it was needed so the person across the road can reverse out their drive easier.

‘‘No comment was given on why I wasn’t notified, but I was advised I could write in and complain. On December 5, I emailed the council and received an automated email response the same day, but I’m yet to receive a real response.”

Council engineering services manager Les Stokes said the sign had been installed at the most suitable location.

“No-standing signs have been installed at the end of Wattle Place to enable vehicles clearance to be able to perform a U-turn at the end of the street, and also to facilitate property access. The resident spoke to council officers in December and has again been contacted in the last few days to address the concerns raised in his most recent email.”
