Heed heatwave tips to keep your cool this week

Draw the blinds, drink plenty of water, turn on airconditioners, and go out in the cool of the day – that’s the advice for Melton and Moorabool residents dealing with the warm temperatures forecast for this week.

Eight people attended Bacchus Marsh Hospital for heat-related illnesses and dehydration during a heatwave in the week beginning January 13.

While the elderly and the young are most vulnerable during a heatwave, people with heart conditions or under physical stress are also at risk.

More than 60 people attended cooling centres open at the Quamby Centre in Bacchus Marsh and the Ballan Senior Citizens Centre.

Tuesday’s Bacchus Marsh temperature was expected to reach 42 degrees.

Tomorrow should bring some relief, with cloud coverage leading to an expected maximum of 25 degrees.

The mercury will then head back up to the low 30s, with 32 expected on Thursday and 33 degrees on Friday.
