VicRoads has made changes to an intersection on the Western Freeway near Melton after an investigation into two fatal crashes late last year.
While the authority found the three deaths could not be attributed to road conditions, it has made minor alterations on Mount Cottrell Road, with other improvements to be considered.
One man died and four people were injured after two cars collided on the freeway near Coburns Road on November 15. Eight days later, an elderly couple died after the car they were travelling in and a 4WD travelling east collided at Mount Cottrell Road.
“VicRoads inspected the two locations at Mount Cottrell and Coburns roads and made recommendations and undertook improvement works,’’ regional director Patricia Liew said.
“At the intersection of Mount Cottrell Road and the Western Freeway, VicRoads relocated the give-way sign and cut the grass for better driver visibility.”
Ms Liew said other improvements would be considered in future road safety programs.
