One person has died and four have been injured in a two-car crash on the Western Freeway in Melton West.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said a green Toyota Camry travelling towards Ballarat crossed the median strip about 5.30am on Friday and collided with a while Holden Commodore travelling towards Melbourne.
The Camry was carrying four men, and the sole occupant and driver of the Commodore was also a male.
The front male passenger of the Camry died at the scene.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman Paul Bentley said 11 paramedics were called to the scene and confirmed all four injured people had been taken to The Alfred hospital.
“One has a fractured leg, and has been airlifted to hospital in a stable condition. A man aged about 50 has got neck injuries but is in a stable condition, and two men in their 30s, also in a stable condition, were taken by road to The Alfred,” Mr Bentley said.
A VicRoads spokesman said the Western Freeway was closed between Coburns Road and Hopetoun Park Road.
