Bacchus Marsh farmer Neville Wilkie and Crookslea Doreen have returned to their farm after winning the intermediate guernsey heifer title at the Royal Melbourne Dairy Show.
While the cow impressed judges with her milking ability, Mr Wilkie had to put in lots of hard yards to land the win.
“Show cattle like Crookslea need to be milked first at 6am, then 6pm,” he says.
“She gets fed grain four times a day, hay eight times a day and water every two hours. You try to set them up to hit their peak when they hit the ring.”
There were more than 370 entries from more than 100 exhibitors.
