Transit and Public Safety Command officers have arrested and charged a 16-year-old Braybrook boy with armed robbery and robbery following two alleged robberies in Melton.

Senior Constable Adam West said investigators have alleged that the boy approached a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy at a bus stop near the Melton Railway Station at about 4.15pm on Monday, August 1.

“It is alleged they were approached by a male who demanded phones and cash before assaulting both of the victims,” he said.

“They complied and the offender left the area.”

Senior Constable West said police have alleged that this incident is possibly linked to another which occurred in High Street in Melton on Sunday, July 31 at about 6.20pm.

“Officers have been told a 19-year-old man was waiting for a bus outside a shopping centre when he was approached by a male,” he said.

“It is alleged the male produced a knife and demanded the victim hand over his phone and clothing.

“A passer-by intervened and the victim ran off but was chased by the offender and forced to hand over the items.”

The 16-year-old has been remanded to appear at a Children’s Court at a later date.
