IN FOCUS: Jolly Miller – good times, ace tastes

The Jolly Miller in Bacchus Marsh got a snazzy revamp in November and now it’s launched a new menu. Part of the town’s streetscape since the mid-1990s, the cafe has always been brekkie, lunch and barista-made coffee headquarters, with homemade cakes a specialty and a welcome mat second to none.

Jolly Miller Bacchus Marsh owner Bob Barbar says he’s always loved producing and serving up good food and good times.

Bob, who also owns the Melton Jolly Miller, is related to the trio of brothers who co-founded The Jolly Miller concept, with cafes now dotted across Victoria.

“I like to treat customers as first-time visitors, with a ready welcome that never wanes with familiarity – even when we know by heart their favourite coffee order and go-to dishes,” Bob says.

“We never forgot the supreme importance of our customers – they are who make life in the cafes so rewarding.

“Our amazing teams in both cafes also contribute so much to my business. They’re so trustworthy and committed, it makes working with them a joy – and their great attitude spills out to customers.

“Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to grow the business the way it has of late.”

So what brings customers back and back?

It may be the brekkies, prepared fresh from the kitchen. They range through healthy acai bowls and bircher muesli to smashed avo and Mr Big with the lot, while indulgent Nutella hotcakes and French toast banana bread are also hard to go past. Brunch-time hot chocolates, made with Belgian chocolate, are special.

Perhaps it’s the lunches, with the likes of nasi goring, grass-fed Angus beef burgers and Thai beef and quinoa salads just some of the choices.

Finish off with a supershake, choosing from six famous flavours.

And what would The Jolly Miller be without its renowned homemade cakes and pastries?

Instagram-worthy and delicious, the cakes make quite a splash at birthdays and other special gatherings.

The selection of pastries goes so well with the cafe’s tea blends and exclusive coffee brews.

And the chai and matcha lattes, plus smoothies and fresh-squeezed juices, meet the on-trend brief.

Businesses, schools and offices take note – the cafes cater for all types of shindigs.

The Melton branch will release its new menu soon.
